Abstract

The purpose of this research paper is to measure and compare the super efficiency of Indian public and private sector banks having frequently scoring standard efficiency scores. The data of total 20 banks including 10 public sector banks and 10 private sector banks operating in India has been endorsed for 10 years (2013-2014 to 2021-22) as per highest the market capitalization of the banks. Using Data Envelopment Analysis, the paper evaluates the input oriented super efficiency scores of selected Indian public and private sector banks as per CRS and VRS approaches. Further, comparison of both the sectors is also done on the basis of the input oriented super efficiency scores and ranking of all the banks is also done. This study offers insights to policy makers, bank executives, and banking regulators about the super efficiency scenario of the selected Indian banks. This comparative examination of DEA models with various input and output variables using a sample of Indian banks is few of its type in the Indian context and aids in the selection of a suitable model for further study.
